Ten glosses on the disintegration of Yugoslavia

Abstract

It makes sense to discuss whether the process of disintegration of Yugoslavia has reached its end or, on the contrary, we still have to wait for new episodes. This is a dispute that is somewhat reminiscent of many of those held in the heat of the so-called Spanish democratic transition. Although the beginning of this is relatively easy to delimit, the same cannot be said of its end. There are those who maintain that the transition in question ended in 1978, with the approval of a new Constitution. There are those who place that end, however, in 1982, when the Socialist Party took over the central Government. In short, there are those who believe that, in the absence of palpable results in many areas, the Spanish transition is yet to end or, failing that, a kind of second transition is necessary.
