The Greek-Macedonian name dispute, from a comparative perspective

The dispute between Greece and the Republic of Macedonia over the name of the latter State is of crucial importance today, not so much because it constitutes a serious obstacle in relations between both countries, but above all because it has become an obstacle until now. insurmountable for the insertion of Macedonia in several relevant international forums of which Greece is already a part and in respect of which it has the right of veto, among which the European Union and NATO stand out. The present work aims to put this dispute in a comparative perspective, which allows us to provide a more global vision of how similar problems have been resolved in other places in Europe, a continent in which the borders have changed so often, depending more frequently on the outcome of war confrontations and the strategic interests of the great powers rather than tradition and the will of the people affected.
